Acrobatics
Acrobatics represents a character's agility, balance, coordination, flexibility, and control over their body. It covers controlled physical movement, tumbling, balancing, recovering from falls, and manoeuvring through difficult or confined spaces.Skill Levels
0 — Untrained
You have no formal training in acrobatics. You can perform ordinary movements and maintain your balance under normal circumstances, but difficult or unusual manoeuvres are beyond your ability.
1 — Novice
You have basic training or limited experience. You can perform simple rolls, basic balancing, controlled falls, and straightforward manoeuvres when circumstances are favourable.
2 — Competent
You are comfortable performing common acrobatic manoeuvres. You can maintain your balance on narrow or unstable surfaces, tumble effectively, recover from falls, and manoeuvre through confined spaces.
3 — Skilled
You are a capable and practised acrobat. You can perform complex manoeuvres, maintain your balance under pressure, recover quickly from unexpected movement, and navigate difficult terrain using agility and coordination.
4 — Expert
You possess exceptional physical control. You can perform highly difficult acrobatic manoeuvres, maintain your balance in hazardous conditions, and use your agility to overcome obstacles that would defeat most trained individuals.
5 — Master
You possess extraordinary mastery of movement and balance. Your control, coordination, and precision allow you to perform feats that appear almost impossible, even to highly trained observers.
Overcome
Acrobatics can be used to overcome obstacles through agility, balance, coordination, and controlled movement.
Examples include:
- Crossing a narrow ledge or unstable surface.
- Moving through a confined or awkward space.
- Recovering from a fall.
- Landing safely after a difficult jump or drop.
- Moving across hazardous terrain.
- Escaping restraints through flexibility and body control.
- Maintaining balance on a moving or unstable surface.
Acrobatics can be used to create an advantage by using superior movement, positioning, or agility.
Examples include:
- Moving into a superior position during a fight.
- Using the environment to gain a height or positioning advantage.
- Moving around an opponent rather than confronting them directly.
- Using a difficult or unexpected movement to make yourself harder to predict.
- Reaching a position that others cannot easily access.
Acrobatics is not primarily an attack skill, but it can have limited offensive applications when movement itself is used against another character.
Examples include:
- Using an acrobatic manoeuvre to move around an opponent and interfere with their position.
- Using momentum or a controlled manoeuvre to knock another character from their footing where circumstances allow.
- Reaching an otherwise inaccessible position from which another skill can be used offensively.
Defensive
Acrobatics can be used defensively by using agility and controlled movement to avoid or reduce the effectiveness of physical threats.
Examples include:
- Evading an environmental hazard.
- Moving out of the path of a physical threat.
- Maintaining balance when another character attempts to knock you from your feet.
- Recovering from an unexpected impact or loss of balance.
- Using movement and positioning to make yourself difficult to reach.
